Naruto Shippuden, episode 303 “Ghosts from the past”

Before I say anything I have to warn you, that for some reason I usually have negative reaction on fillers. And it is not that I hate fillers just because they are fillers, no. I know that fillers are necessary and such and there are fillers that I liked a lot. Usually those are the comic ones. But anyway, most of the fillers had not win much praise from me.

Plotwise this filler was made decently. If anything, reanimation of old comrades would be a natural thing to do for Kabuto. And, as boring as it is, making Shikamaru, Kiba, Choji and Neji fight the same opponents once more is the logical thing to do, as they are the only ones who know their techniques. So, in that respect the episode was ok.

Animation wise this episode was not that great. At lest the first three quarters of it. Just look at this screenshot with Choji in it:

Naruto Shippuden Episode 303 Choji

What kind of animation is it? Bad one, I tell you.

But at the end of the episode, when those four released that “Transportation Jutsu Formula: Underworld Transfer” the animation became better. I guess that wanted to make the end of the episode look really good, so they had to put all their budget there and close to nothing was left for the rest of the episode.

Tayuya’s evil laughter. That animation is so different for what you’ve seen above.

Also, one more rant about animation of gore scenes. Just look at it:

Naruto Shippuden Episode 303 Wounded ninja in a spiderweb

You can see deep and not at all kid-friendly looking wounds

Now, why did they draw those wounds? And, if they can draw wounds in such unnecessary moments, why could not they draw wounds when they animate manga scenes? Huh?

During the episode I was thinking that all they wanted from this episode was to buy some time. They put in tons of flashbacks and lots of static scenes but all that was done decently, so I am not going to complain. Still, was thinking that it is a bit sad to have a pointless episode. First half of the episode reanimated guys were dominating the battlefields, which looked ridiculous, because originally they were weak enough to be defeated by bunch of genin. Then it was shown that in truth they are nothing but a joke for Shikamaru and Co to handle. I was thinking “Good, the point of the episode was to remind us how strong Naruto former classmates has became. Why not, I’m ok with that.”

But then they pulled this Yomi Tenshin no Jutsu. I don’t know what is it, but look like it is some kind of a transportation technique. Let’s look at it:

Naruto Shippuden Episode 303 Transportation Jutsu Formula: Underworld Transfer

Yomi Tenshin no Jutsu or Transportation Jutsu Formula: Underworld Transfer

Looks cool. You can easily tell that it is a filler technique, though. Even if you never read the manga. If such a technique was available in Naruto universe, Orochimaru would have used it to get Sasuke and Akatsuki would have used it to get Gaara. But anyway, now we don’t know what is going to happen. That makes it way more interesting. I think we will see Shikamaru, Kiba, Choji and Neji fighting as a team, loosing during the first half of the episode, and then Shikamaru will come up with a way to transport Naruto in that dimension and like that they will defeat those four.

Now, I have to mention the four sound ninja. Their names are Tayuya, Jirobo, Sakon and Kidomaru. I did not remember them, so I guessed that you might not too. Let’s look how much they changed.

Naruto Shippuden Episode 303 Tayuya

They did not change much, though it is hard to tell when the quality of animation goes up and down in one episode couple of times.

Here is the preview of the next episode:

Hope the next episode will be interesting. See you (^_^)/
